We’re coming up on the one year anniversary of The Silent Sod! To celebrate, Char and I are going to host a Zoom party for our subscribers on Thursday, February 6th, at 8pm EST.
We spend a lot of time researching on newspapers.com, and we’ve both been intrigued by sensational medical ads that promise cures for a host of conditions, or in some cases, all conditions:

At our Zoom party, Char and I will be sharing some of our favorite advertisements, and we’ll examine the questions they raise about medical ethics, vitality, gender, and more. We’ll also review what we’ve learned in one year of publishing The Silent Sod and answer your questions.
All of our subscribers will receive an email this Friday with information on how to attend our February 6th Zoom party. If you’re not yet a subscriber and would like to join, please subscribe (it’s free!).
Since I like to use AI to recreate parties from the past, I decided to ask it to make an invitation for this one year party in the style of an early 20th century medical advertisement. I love the slogan it included (even if it is misspelled): Cures Loneliness! Guaranteed Fun!
We’re grateful to our readers, and we can’t wait to meet with you virtually.
