This is so fascinating! I love the research here that illuminates the hidden thread through transatlantic society.

I agree! I will definitely be sharing more! I initially thought Titanic was interesting, and then you realize there is a whole world behind that era and the journeys across the ocean. Thanks so much!

No, I never heard that story.I wonder if they even knew. The story they use to tell was about how Aunt Connie met Ben McKee. it was so romantic ,but did not match any info I found online. The way the Magnett's told it, Connie drove an ambulance during WW1, very Downton Abbey, and she picked up a wounded American soldier, visited him in the hospital and they fell in love. According to the internet, Mckee drove an ambulance in France and might have fought with the French Army or he worked for the Red Cross. I like my Grandmother's version better, but it looks like it might be like the disclaimers you see on a "based on a true story" movies. You know, where events have been embellished or reimagined.... to make a better story. If you are really interested, send me your email. I have some info that I do not want to share on a public forum.

Connie Magnett was my great Aunt. She had a brother Harry, my grandfather, and three Sisters.

May and Sadie Grace or "Bob". I cannot remember the name of the oldest sister. Connie ended up in Greenwich, Conn. May married a plantation owner in South Africa, whom she met while touring in a show and my Aunt Bob lived in England and in later years, New York. She was the only one I knew, as both Connie, May and my grandfather died before I was born.

The family had an expression when referring to themselves or each other.

" She was a real God Damnit".

Lol I love that!! This made my day. It is so neat to think of family history being told through these ocean liners! Did your family know she encountered the captain of the Titanic rescue ship?
