I lived in Salem from 2000-2001, before it began its transformation into a hip little city. Back then there wasn't much in the way of nightlife or dining, mostly dive bars where Salem State students would go to drink and dance. The Peabody Essex Museum is a real gem, and it also plays host to the Mass Poetry Festival every other year, which is a lovely thing indeed.
I visited Salem about 15 years ago and toured the Peabody Essex. The one thing I remember was a painting by the artist Samuel Walters. Although there are more famous artists of this genre, none compare to how Walters could paint the canvas sails, so perfectly.
Love the idea of this Bingo card... And thanks so much for sharing your trip to Salem, which is also on my bucket list. Just last weekend we saw an incredible local production of The Crucible, so the tidbit about the name change was also great / perfectly timed!
Hope you make to Salem soon. Having it on my Bingo card definitely pushed me to go for a day trip from Boston when I might have otherwise stayed in the city.
Have you heard about the new Broadway production of a play called John Proctor is the Villain? I saw it locally, and I'm headed to New York in a few weeks to catch it on Broadway.
From the Turners Seafood menu: muddled cucumber and jalapeno, lime juice, simple syrup, topped with N/A sparkling wine. They were out of the N/A wine when I was there so I just had soda water with it.

I wanted to go to the Peabody Essex Museum, but it was closed on the day I made my trip. I'll plan better next time!
It's a delight. See my other comment.
It really is - I think of it almost like a mini Smithsonian, with a real regional New England focus.

Thank you. I will add this to my list!

Ooh I hadn’t heard of that play but glad to know it exists and will keep an eye out (…I definitely understand where it’s coming from).
This is great! What is that drink? I see jalapeños in it! Shayla would love that lol

I WANT to visit Salem and then head down to Cape Cod to visit the Edward Gorey House on the same trip. One day!
